Lumbini, Birthplace of Lord Buddha is located in southern part of Nepal. Buddha was born in 623 B.C. The importance of Lumbini is testified by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka who visited Lumbini in order to pay homage and erected a pillar in 249 B.C. to indicate the birthplace of Buddha. Newly renovated Mayadevi Temple (see picture) which houses the nativity sculpture depicting the birth scene of the Buddha.The temple also houses the Marker Stone discovered in 1996 A.D. which depicts the exact spot where the Buddha was born is now kept in bulletproof glass in the Mayadevi Temple.
Near the temple is situated teh puskarni pond where Queen Mayadevi, Buddha’s mother had given the first purification bath to the infant Buddha.
Acess: From Kathmandu, fly to Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa (30 minutes) and then drive (22km) to Lumbini. Overland from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa is 300 km (around 9 hrs).
Days 01 : Arrival and transfer to Hotel.
Afternoon: Half-day sight seeing tour to Swayambhunath Stupa; the 2000 years old Buddhist monument on a small hillock, also popularly known as the Monkey temple.
Days 02 : Transfer to Lumbini by tourist coach
Days 03 : Sightseeing at Lumbini Park.
Visit Mayadevi temple and newly built many buddhist temples by different nation. There are temples built by Thailand, Myanmar, China, Japan, Nepal etc.
Days 04 : Drive to Pokhara ( nearly 8 hrs)
Days 05 : Sarangkot Hike.
Early morning, 30 minutes drive to half of Sarangkot and walk 45 minutes to be on top of the Sarangkot hill. This spot is very popular to view sunrise and Annapurna range of Himalayas. After having breakfast at hotel, Pokhara city sightseeing (Devi's fall, Old bazar, Phewa lake, Mountain museum)
Days 06 : Departure.
